Curing Textiles With IR

Textile curing is well served by the effective and efficient properties of infrared. Here are a few real-world example of IR heat applied to textile curing.

  • A high-end automobile manufacturer cures the fabric roof material on its convertible cars using fast mediumwave infrared heaters from Heraeus Noblelight. The system is controlled via a straighforward control panel with optical pyrometer. The system offers fine-tuned control of individual zones, applying specific amounts of heat exactly where needed.

  • A fabric manufacturer installed a modular infrared system from Heraeus Noblelight to provide curing heat for its digitally-printed fabrics. The system includes shortwave single-tube lamps and two-zone power control via optical pyrometer. The curing unit is inline with the textile printer. The small-footprint system allowed the manufacturer to keep its exsiting printer rather than having to replace it with one costing four to five times as much.

  • A manufacturer of a range of chemical- and fire-resistant fabrics uses heat to cure neoprene and silcone coatings on fabrics. Their previous system included long wave metal-sheathed elements that would retract to protect product against overheating in the event of conveyor stoppage. They replaced that system with an infrared system from Heraeus Noblelight, consisting of four infrared modules. The new system was installed within the framework of the existing produciton line. It increased line speed 25%, and its fast heat-up and cool-down properties reduced power consumption.

These examples are by no means a complete list. Infrared heat is an effective and efficient means of applying process heat in many other applications.
