Heraeus : Solutions in Applied Light

APPLICATIONS

UV Lacquering of Wood, Plastics and More

There are different ways to apply lacquer on a substrate: roller coaters, spray coaters, vacuum coaters, silkscreen printing. It is possible to apply UV-lacquers on almost any substrate. In the wood industry UV is applied for the production of doors, parquet and furniture. The coating and polishing is done mostly in several turns. Mat varnishing is also possible.

Silicone is applied on the basic paper of labels. This process is usually done under UV-light. Plastics represent a large market for UV. UV is used in the finishing operation of floor covering; other plastics (PE, PP, PET) can also be UV coated. Other UV lacquered products include skis, helmets, television housings, fishing lines, headlights, mirrors, decorative panels of polycarbonate or polyester.

In the metal industry the greatest energy savings are realized. Shrinkage problems of the UV lacquers during the drying are solved, so UV now is used for pipelines, steel furniture, steel wire, wheel guards and more. Special applications for UV lacquers include fiber optic cables, optic fibers, security glass, leather for the shoe industry, stereo photolithography, and many others. The list is growing all the time.
